Myobrace®
Supporting healthy growth
through early orthodontic care
Children’s teeth, jaws, and facial structures continue to develop throughout their early years. In some cases, oral habits such as mouth breathing, incorrect tongue position, and swallowing patterns may influence how the teeth and jaws develop.
At CFS Dental, Myobrace® may be recommended as part of an early orthodontic treatment plan for growing children. Following a comprehensive assessment, we’ll determine whether Myobrace® is appropriate for your child’s needs and explain the available treatment options.

What is Myobrace®?
Myobrace® is a preventive orthodontic system designed for growing children, generally between the ages of 3 and 15 years. Unlike traditional braces, which primarily focus on straightening teeth, Myobrace® aims to address underlying oral habits that may contribute to orthodontic concerns, while supporting healthy jaw development.
Depending on your child’s individual needs, treatment may focus on encouraging healthy breathing, correct tongue resting position, proper swallowing patterns, and keeping the lips together at rest. These habits play an important role in healthy oral development.
Not every child is suitable for Myobrace®. Treatment is only recommended where appropriate, following a comprehensive assessment of your child’s oral development.

When might Myobrace® be recommended?
Myobrace® may be considered if your child shows signs of:
- Mouth breathing
- Tongue thrusting or incorrect tongue position
- Incorrect swallowing patterns
- Crowded or developing crowded teeth
- Poor jaw development
- Early bite concerns
- Oral habits that may influence dental development
Early assessment allows us to identify these concerns while your child is still growing and determine whether early intervention may be beneficial.
How does Myobrace® treatment work?
Every child develops differently, so treatment is tailored to their individual needs. Myobrace® uses a series of removable appliances selected according to your child’s stage of growth and orthodontic needs. The appliance is generally worn for one to two hours during the day and overnight while sleeping, alongside a structured programme of exercises that encourage healthy oral habits.
These exercises, focus on breathing, tongue position, swallowing, lip function, and cheek muscles to help reinforce healthy patterns as your child grows.
We’ll explain how the appliance is used, demonstrate the recommended exercises, and arrange regular review appointments to monitor your child’s progress throughout treatment.

The stages of treatment
Every Myobrace® treatment plan is personalised to your child’s stage of growth and individual needs. While every child develops differently, treatment generally progresses through four key stages designed to support healthy oral development.
Habit Correction
Jaw Development
Dental Alignment
Retention
Habit CorrectionTreatment begins by encouraging healthy oral habits that may influence the development of the teeth and jaws, including breathing, tongue position, and swallowing patterns.
Jaw Development
As your child grows, treatment aims to support healthy jaw development and, where appropriate, create additional space for developing teeth.

Why early intervention can be beneficial
When appropriate, addressing developing concerns during childhood may help support healthy oral and jaw development.
Depending on your child’s individual circumstances, Myobrace® treatment may help:
Depending on your child’s individual circumstances, Myobrace® treatment may help:
- Encourage healthy nasal breathing
- Support correct tongue resting position
- Improve swallowing patterns
- Encourage the lips to remain comfortably together at rest
- Support healthy jaw development
- Reduce the impact of harmful oral habits
- Support future orthodontic treatment where required
Not every child requires early intervention. In many cases, ongoing monitoring is the most appropriate approach. We’ll always recommend treatment based on your child’s stage of development and individual needs.
Supporting success
throughout treatment
Successful Myobrace® treatment depends on consistent wear of the appliance and practising the recommended exercises at home.
We’ll work closely with both you and your child to provide guidance, monitor progress, and support healthy oral habits throughout treatment. Regular review appointments allow us to assess your child’s development and make any adjustments to their treatment plan where appropriate.
